Our journey will start with a boat ride at the Arenal Lake. As we glide on the waters of Costa Rica’s biggest hydroelectric lake, we will enjoy amazing views of the Arenal Volcano and Monteverde’s blue mountains as they fill our horizons. In fact, this lake is a landmark and holds a rich history you can discover in this part of the trip. Additionally, you might have the chance to see a variety of aquatic birds such as egrets and herons.
Afterwards, we’ll reach the entrance of “La Península”. Here, a path will take us through the forest in the most recent national park’s areas while we seek the wildlife hidden and enjoy amazing views of the lake and volcano. As a matter of fact, the Arenal Volcano National Park is constituted by 30,000 acres with four major climatic zones, so this place sets a great stage for wildlife being home for over 500 species of birds and a variety of mammals like deers, jaguars and monkeys.
After a couple of minutes walking, you’ll head to a fantastic lookout located on the top of a tower, where you will get a unique perspective of the surrounding areas. Along the way across primary forest, we’ll discover how wonderful this ancient vegetation is. For example, there we’ll find a giant 400 years old ceiba tree. Then we’ll hike to areas that were once destroyed by volcanic activity and now are facing a process of regeneration. A journey through the “Coladas Trail” will take us all the way to experience what not long ago were lava flows. In this experience you’ll taste a blend of nature, geology and volcano history, all in the hands of our professional naturalist guides.
