Kayak Costa Rica (On Arenal Lake)
To kayak Costa Rica is more than an adventure, it is a way to see places that are not discovered unless you are in the water and on a small boat. There are unknown corners in the rainforest, small havens that can be enjoyed through paddling and breathing in the aromas of the great Arenal Lake.
The tour starts when we pick you up at your hotel and take you on a pleasant drive to the area of the Arenal Lake where finally, you will know why kayak Costa Rica is a good idea.
The Arenal Lake is an artificial body of water created in 1974 as a hydroelectrical generator. Even though, it is hard to imagine the view before it was made, as it matches amazingly well in the colorful landscape of the Northern Plains.
As you arrive at the put-in, our team will give you a brief security briefing and some kayak techniques that will make this experience much easier.
If you have never done kayaking before, don’t worry. Our team will look for the easier and flat waters for your tour to be pleasant and memorable.
Once you know what to do and what not to do in the ride, you will start paddling in the different areas of the lake depending on weather and wind conditions.
In the Arenal lake, you will see an abundance of birds, flycatchers, tanagers, and warblers are usually on the surrounding trees, however, on the edge of the water, you will delight in an abundance of aquatic species such as anhingas, cormorants, herons and egrets of all sorts.
As well as you may get to see or at least hear, some of the howler monkeys in the area.
The tour lasts a little over four hours and it is quite recommended to come in your bathing suit so that you can take a swim in the freshwater of the lake.
